With a city that ranks No. 2 on Tripadvisor’s Trending Destinations list + No. 22 on WalletHub’s list of the Best-Run Cities in America, it’s no surprise ~151,612 people call it home. With a population like that, where do all of these Charlestonians eat, drink, play, and live?
We are setting out to answer that with CHStoday’s Neighborhood Guides. Much like our past guides to downtown Charleston and Summerville, this ongoing series will take you on an exploration of the communities that make Charleston feel like home. We’ll dive into history, things to do and discover, places to park, where to live, and more to showcase some of the best qualities our unique neighborhoods have to offer.

So, what do we define as a “neighborhood”?
While we love suburbs like Dunes West in Mt. Pleasant + Wild Dunes on Isle of Palms, these guides will focus on small communities within our city (think: Avondale and Park Circle). These small but mighty parts of Charleston typically feature restaurants, parks, living spaces, festivals, events, and more, and span one to a handful of blocks. How will we choose what neighborhoods to cover?
This is where you come in. We are asking you to rave about all of your favorite neighborhood communities in the Holy City — whether it's one you call home, always stop by with out-of-town visitors, or daydream about moving to.
Are you intrigued by West Ashley’s history? Do you love being able to walk from a Cannonborough Elliotborough coffee shop to a clothing store in a matter of minutes? Ever wonder why Park Circle gained popularity so quickly? We want to hear all about it + share the inside scoop with our readers.
Head to the button below to point us in the direction of some of the best neighborhoods around town — from areas with rich history and unique architecture to the best places to retire or purchase your first home.

Editor's pick: If you've been following along with me long enough, you know that I'm definitely a seafood gal.
When I'm not ordering any type of seafood at a local restaurant, I'm likely snacking on some rendition of crab dip + crackers — probably Kellogg's® Club® crackers (if you know, you know).
Local biz Big T Coastal Provisions is celebrating 10 years in business this year + I can't think of a better reason (or excuse?) to head to my nearest Harris Teeter and grab its Original Crab Dip. Trust me: It's good.
Find a retailer near you + try it out for yourself. Congrats, Big T. 🎉 Missed yesterday's newsletter? Meet 25 Instagram-famous dogs in Charleston here. |
