After hearing about the news of Chef Nico Romo’s third concept coming soon, which specializes in 'za + other Italian dishes, we just knew we had to get saucy with today's lead story.
The Holy City might be known for some good old shrimp ‘n grits + she crab soup, and pizza may not be the first thing that comes to mind. That doesn’t mean there aren’t some really good options.
We did some digging to find a few of the best local pizza spots around town and we’re sharing the knead-to-knows. |

🍕 Charleston
D’Allesandro’s Pizza, 229 St. Philip St. | A neighborhood favorite since 2006. We love the Big Cheesy. Pizzeria di Giovanni, 40 N. Market St. | Check out Neapolitan-style pizza paired with a Greek salad.
Sabatino’s Pizza, 151 Calhoun St. | Consistency is key and Sabatino’s passes the test. Bonus: Head to the walk-up window for a slice.
Baker & Brewer, 94 Stuart St. | Come for the ‘za, stay for the relaxed atmosphere + outdoor space.
🍕 Mt. Pleasant Orlando's Pizza, 230 Mathis Ferry Rd. + 295 Seven Farms Dr., Daniel Island | You can’t beat the two-slice lunch special — $8 for cheese and $9 for a topping.
Amalfi's Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria, 664 Long Point Rd. | Pro tip: Try the Sicilian-style pizza.
Toni’s Pizza, 1795 N. Hwy. 17 | Order an authentic Detroit-style pizza plus a Vernors Float for the perfect balance of sweet + salty.
🍕 North Charleston Park Pizza, 1028 E. Montague Ave. | Mix up your usual order with the pizza of the month.
EVO Pizzeria, 1075 E. Montague Ave. | Pair your snack plate dinner special with a local draft beer from Indigo Reef or Revelry. |

a 6,000-sqft Italian restaurant + bar, will open

Traffic - Six options for roadwork to improve traffic on Johns Island from Maybank Highway to Betsy Kerrison Parkway are available for public comment. Three options include building new roads or improving existing ones and the other three options target Bohicket and Main roads, plus the Maybank Highway intersection.
Plan costs range from $40-$200 million. 🚧 (The Post and Courier)
Civic - Yesterday, Charleston City Council discussed the possibility of utilizing
$1 million in tourism funding to help build the Ashley River Pedestrian Bridge —

completed in 2026. 💰 (WCSC)

Real Estate -
Anyone have a few mil’ to lend us? Check out Pine Island — a 56.1-acre private island listed for $10 million by the Charleston-based Huguley Team of Daniel Ravenel Sotheby's International Realty. The two-parcel Okatie property offers a

June 10 at 5 p.m. Nominate a professional. 🏆 (Charleston Regional Business Journal + Soda City BizWire)
Biz - Rusty Bull + Chucktown breweries are teaming up for a craft beer collaboration. Over the next several weeks, expect to see a shift in draft selection at Chucktown Brewery’s King Street location to more Rusty Bull beers, a refreshed food menu with items from both breweries, and small-batch beers brewed on the in-house system. Cheers, Charleston. 🍻
Festival - The
51st annual Charleston Greek Festival reported record attendance during the three-day event this past weekend.

In case y’all haven’t heard: Poke Burri is the place to be.
City Editor Lexa here. I recently stopped by Poke Burri in The Victory building in West Ashley for a Friday night sushi burrito + some crab rangoons off of the secret menu, and I have to tell you: I was floored.
Dropping this pic here because I feel like it speaks for itself. In case you aren’t sold, I got the Demogorgon sushi burrito and I went to sleep dreaming about the meal. Check it out at 835 Savannah Hwy. — you won’t be disappointed.
