Dorchester County Parks and Recreation is planning a 300-acre park for $4.5 million that could become the largest park in the county. Even Leslie Knope would be jealous.
It would be built in Pine Trace Natural Area off of Miles Jamison Road in Summerville, which is the city’s biggest tract of undeveloped land. The area was originally purchased from the state for a 780-home housing development.
Park plans:
- 2 dog parks
- disc golf course
- fishing piers
- camping area
- playgrounds
- community garden
- bike/pedestrian paths
- 5+ miles of trails
The extensive trail system may connect to parts of Summerville + the Chandler Bridge Creek Path and will wind throughout the area’s hardwood forest.
Plans should be finalized in the coming weeks, with construction beginning in March of next year. The county aims to open the new park by the end of 2022. 🌳
