A little taste of art history is coming to the Lowcountry.

Tuesday marks the first day of the Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience, opening its doors in the Charleston area for the first time.

The exhibit has toured internationally and sold more than 2.5 million tickets, but this is the first time the “experience” has come to the Lowcountry.

More than 300 of world-renowned artist Vincent Van Gogh’s paintings, including “The Starry Night,” “Sunflowers” and “Café Terrace at Night” have been put together in multimedia recreations that take over a whole room.

A soundtrack set to Van Gogh’s thoughts and words was also created to accompany the pieces of art in motion, in what directors of the exhibit call an “unmatched narrative experience.”

The exhibit will be open Tuesdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., starting July 19 through Sept.25.

From July 25 to August 7, attendees can donate school supplies in exchange for an accompanying child's ticket. The drive is in partnership with Wings for Kids and Charleston Hope, who will distribute the supplies.

The donation should be a backpack or bag filled with school and/or art supplies. Items in high demand include disinfecting wipes, hand sanitizer, dry erase markers, tissues, composition notebooks, spiral notebooks, 2-pocket folders, pre-sharpened pencils, crayons and colored pencils.

If you want to order tickets to the Van Gogh experience you can go to vangoghcharleston.com. Tickets start at $36.99 for adults and $21.99 for children, excluding ticket fees.
